Nutritive Evaluation of Rumen Content from Cattle, Camel, Sheep and Goat

Abstract


     The objective of the present study was to evaluate the nutritive value of dried rumen content from cattle (CRC), camel (LRC), sheep (SRC) and goat (GRC). Samples of rumen contents were collected at the Elkadaro and Ganawa abattoir in Khartoum state. The samples were sundried for 3 days. Proximate analysis, calculated metabolizable energy, minerals, cell wall components and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) were estimated. The results revealed that there were significant differences (P≤ 0.05) between CRC, LRC, SRC and GRC in all indices. Results showed that CRC contained highest crude protein (18.53%). SRC high ether extracts (4.23%), while GRC showed low ether extract (1.55%). Ash content was highest in CRC (14.23%). Nitrogen free extract was 40.11% in GRC. Calculated metabolizable energy was high in SRC. GRC contained high calcium (1.20%) and phosphorus (1.59%) level. SRC contained significantly (P≤ 0.05) high level of sodium, potassium and magnesium. LRC and GRC contain high crude fiber, while CRC contain lowest value. The IVDMD high in LRC (66.35%). The study concluded that the dried rumen content from cattle, camel, sheep and goat contained high nutritional value; it can be included in livestock feeds.
