Estimation of Carcass Weight from Body Measurements in Ross 308 Broiler Chicken using Factor Scores in Regression Analysis

Udeh Ifeanyichukwu

Abstract

In this study the relationship between carcass weight and six body measurements (bodyweight, body length, breast width, shank length, thigh length, wing length) were examined in 120 eight week Ross 308 broiler chicken using factor analysis scores in linear regression analysis. Only one factor with eigen value greater than 1 was extracted as independent variable accounting for 90.60% of the variation in the original variable. This factor predicted carcass weight of Ross 308 broilers with 94.00% accuracy leaving 6.00% to unexplainable or residual causes
