Study on the Nutritive Value and Effect of Madhuca Seedcake Replacement on Digestibility and Nitrogen Utilization of Goats in Concentrate Mixture

Abstract


Most of farmers are making an effort to replace the unconventional feedstuff in commercial concentrate because of its expensive and scarcity. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of Madhuca (meze) seedcake replacement in concentrate mixture on performance of goats. The urea treated rice straw (URS), concentrate mixture (CCmix) and Madhuca (Mad) were used as feedstuffs. The experimental diets [CG (URS+CCmix), G-1 (URS+CCmix+10% Mad), G-2 (URS+CCmix+20% Mad), G-2 (URS+CCmix+30% Mad] were isonitrogenously formulated. The DM, OM, CP, NDF, ADF, EE and saponins contents of madhuca seedcake were 89.73, 94.15, 17.58, 42.99, 36.30, 2.64 and 0.72%, respectively. Although the nutrient intakes and digestibilities of experimental diets were not significantly differences, the highest values were found in the diet of G-2. However, the digestibility of NDF of G-3 was significantly lower than that of CG, G-1 and G-2. The urine nitrogen and nitrogen utilization of G-3 and G-2 were significantly lower than CG and G-1. Cost effectiveness of all treatment groups was not significantly different from each other. However, the profit (%) and profit/kg of G-1 was higher than CG, G-2 and G-3. Therefore, according to the results, the Madhuca (Meze) could be replaced in commercial concentrate for the diets of goat and feeding upto 30% of total diet was not adverse effect on the performances of goats.
